What kind of story are you telling yourself *about* yourself? Does it fit who you are right now, or do you think it’s time to find a new one? We’re asking ourselves some big questions on the podcast today, and Enneagram coach and podcaster Ian Morgan Cron is here to guide us! Ian is an expert in the Enneagram personality assessment (he’s a 4, by the way), and today he and Emily (a Type 2!) share how learning more about themselves through the Enneagram has helped them see why they make the decisions they do. Ian shows us how to find out if we’re living a story that’s serving who we are right now, and if it’s not, how to let go of a past that doesn’t define us and embrace a rich new story that reflects who we were made to be.

Thought-Provoking Quotes
“Let's face it: just reading a book about the Enneagram isn’t going to do much except give you a type. That means in order to experience that change, you have to change the story in which you live.” – Ian Morgan Cron
“You're not stuck. You're the narrator here, okay? So you have the freedom to say, ‘Man, this old story does not serve me anymore. And now I'm going to adopt a new story that is in alignment with my values and with who I want to be as a person.’” – Ian Morgan Cron
“People are not what they've survived in the past. That doesn't have to define you. It's not who you are. It's what happened to you. And those are two different things.” – Ian Morgan Cron
“If you want to change, you have to face the story that you've been living and decide for yourself if that story still serves you well. And if it doesn't, it’s time to rewrite it.” – Ian Morgan Cron
A Blessing for Your Week
May you take slow, gentle steps toward your new story each day.
May you embrace who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re headed.
And may you trust that although you’ll face hardship along the way, in the end, you will soar.
Simplicity Tip of the Week
The idea of “living into a new story” can sound a little . . . well, it can sound a little big for a Thursday afternoon. But starting something in a small way still means that you’re starting something. And that’s good enough for me. Right now, think about a word that you’d like to be part of your new story. Then, beginning with the words “I am,” make a brief, bold statement about yourself: “I am curious. I am wholehearted. I am confident.” Even if it’s a little hard to believe right now, the more you say that to yourself, the more you’ll begin to believe it. Just try it—and tell me how it goes.
