Big news!

February 06, 2012

I am THRILLED to share that Emily Ley Creative is HIRING! Over the past four years, ELC has grown by leaps and bounds and encompasses a LOT of fun partnerships/projects. I’ve realized that its time to bring on another talented designer who loves delicious packaging, fresh and classic patterns and the Archer font as much as I do. : )

The Emily Ley Creative brand is friendly, family-oriented and built upon a love for telling stories through clean, beautiful design. As Assistant Creative Director, you will work closely with me to grow the Emily Ley Paper product collection beginning with the expansion of the Simplified Collection and addition of personalized Children’s and Holiday Collections. You will also be involved in client collateral and packaging design and manage the printing and production processes from concept to completion. Applicants must be motivated self-starters, highly attentive to detail, have exceptional friendly, communication skills, comfortable with fast paced processes and deadlines. A warm, personal demeanor is essential. This position is a part-time, remote position contracted for 10-20 hours per week (this will fluctuate during peak times of the year). Emily Ley Creative is closed Thanskgiving through New Year’s (so that we can spend time with our families).

In short, I’m looking for someone who is happy, who loves and can execute clean, classic, personal design and most importantly, someone who will be a wonderful, authentic representation of the Emily Ley brand.

Qualifications:

  • B.A. in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, or related field
  • One or more years of graphic design experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Professional, friendly demeanor
  • Experienced with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign CS5
  • Knowledgable of printing methods and processes

Logistics:

  • Remote position (US only).
  • Position to begin March 1. Flexible hours.
  • Must have consistent and reliable access to internet, phone and email, with a quiet at-home office environment.

Compensation:

  • Contracted position, $10 -15 per hour based on experience
  • 10-20 hours per week (fluctuating at certain points of the year)

To Apply:

If you’re as excited as I am about this, please send an email to emily [at] emilyley [dot] com using the subject ASSISTANT CREATIVE DIRECTOR with a creative application telling me why you’re perfect for this role. Please include examples of your work or a link to your portfolio. Please be sure to let your personality and talent shine through – (hint hint the most creative application gets bonus points!) I will be accepting applications until February 20, 2012.

So excited!!

xo,

Emily

a long holiday

November 21, 2011

Brady’s first.

I can’t wait to feed him green beans and mashed potatoes and his Grandma’s pumpkin pie.

This year has been busy. Its been busy in the best, most crazy, amazing ways imaginable. And though I’ve found ways to be a mom and designer at the same time, I’m ready to be a mom for a while. Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year. Its full of so much tradition, so much family and so many amazing memories.

I can’t wait to introduce Brady to Santa for the first time, to take him to the crazy Chick Fil A down the street and show him the lights, the “snow,” and the choir. I can’t wait to wrap his presents that we’ll carefully choose. I can’t wait to fill his stocking and bake cookies together and visit Nana and Grandpa. I can’t wait.

We’ll be doing a little traveling and lots of memory-making. And so on December 1 I’ll be closing the Pop Up Holiday shop and putting up my “gone fishin” (or cookie baking, or gift giving, or family visiting, or song singing) sign until after the New Year. And… I’ll be planning to make this a yearly tradition. It’s not easy being a mom and a business owner, but by carving time in exactly the right places and being diligent and hardworking and focused those other times… its not only possible, its conquerable.

I can’t wait to do more exploring, more breathing in the warm sunshine, more stories, more first birthday party planning. Oh the first birthday party… its going to be amazing. I can’t wait to dive in.

While I am away, you can find me on my personal tumblr, “Letters to Bman” documenting our family adventures and on Facebook. I’m sure I’ll have a post or two here of a personal nature. We’ll also continue scheduling Making Brands Happen clients for 2012 (filling up FAST!) as well as stationery consulting sessions.

Wishing you all a very, very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season!!

Grace Not Perfection

June 21, 2011

During a conversation with Lara Casey (soon-to-be-mama) about our work with Making Brands Happen – and balancing our love for our clients, our commitments to our families and our multiple “hats,” I said something that has resonated with me since that phone call.

“I will hold myself to a standard of GRACE not PERFECTION.”

Period. My roles as wife, mother, friend, designer, daughter, sister, business partner, entrepreneur, peek-a-boo master, party-thrower, stationery creator, dinner whipper-upper, encourager, teacher and most importantly, bedtime story teller are ENORMOUS. Trying to balance them all is IMPOSSIBLE. And so instead, I devote myself to each one. at. a. time. I am committing myself to taking off one hat before I put on another. And let me say these things:

  • This is not easy.
  • This is undoubtedly worth it.
  • This is the God’s honest truth from the depths of my heart.
  • My family is #1.
  • My clients respect me for that.
  • It is difficult to let anyone down when I am giving that person 100% during the time I am wearing “that” hat.
  • I will make things happen and make decisions to support everything above.
  • I do what I do because I love what I love.
  • I am not so important that I have to answer emails while having tummy time.
  • My little man will still know he is loved if he spends a few afternoons with a trusted “new friend” while Mommy works.
  • My work flourishes because of this commitment not the opposite like I often expect.
  • I am a better wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend when I act with grace NOT when I am perfect.

Even if it requires me physically throwing my iPhone across a nursery at bedtime, so that I am not tempted with distraction and spend my moments staring into the big blue eyes and chubby, toothless, sincerely amused smile of this little man, I will live up to that standard of grace. I wont ever be perfect and I will be okay with that.

Leave a comment here if you’re ready to do this. I want to know who is committing themselves TO THIS TODAY and dropping the idea that they need to fit a certain mold of perfection. Don’t feel pressured to write a novel. Just say I’m in. Let’s start something big.

xo
