Hi there! I’m Annie Reeves, a twenty-something living in Charleston, South Carolina with my tiny chihuahua pup, Hasell (named after the first street I lived on here!). I’m a big proponent of celebrating the little things – believing every one of life’s small moments deserves a champagne pop or celebratory dinner. I’m a life + style blogger over at AnnieReeves.com, and I also get to work with the fabulous Candy Shop Vintage and Cassina Group companies during the week.
How do you take care of yourself so that you’re physically and mentally prepared to be your best self for others?
Taking care of myself is all about moderation. I think endorphins are really important, so I do a few spin classes a week and get outside with my dog. I always have a clearer mind post-workout (though the hours leading up sometimes cause a little dread :) ). For mental health, a few quiet moments in prayer or reading are musts every single day. Finally, though I absolutely love technology – and I think it is really great for so many reasons! – I try to unplug throughout the day for varying periods of time. I think this one is good physically (I swear my eyes are going…) and mentally (the thief of joy = comparison, for real).
What’s your favorite beauty secret?
My favorite beauty secret is Oribe’s Dry Texturizing spray and a pop of color on the lips. If I’m at work and decide at the last minute to grab oysters and a cocktail at the Ordinary down the street (it happens more frequently than you’d think!), these two items are a lifesaver. The spray for a little body and oomph in my hair, and the lipstick for an instant brightening effect. Mac and Maybelline make my favorite shades!
What’s your favorite go-to outfit for a quick polished look?
I’m all about the all-black look – it’s so easy to pull a few pieces together when you’re working with the same color. Plus, it’s super chic (and slimming). You’ll frequently find me in my black skinnies, Tibi racerback camisole, big sunglasses, and bright accessories (I’ve been loving Empire State Finery lately!).
What’s your favorite quick-prep dinner for your family?
Well, I cook for one, which a challenge in and of itself. I love breakfast for dinner – eggs, toast, and fruit – or I use my spiralizer to make a healthy zucchini pasta dish!
Tell us your favorite Instagram account to follow and why?
My favorite Instagram account I follow is @amy_stone. If you’re not familiar, she posts the most stunning images of her daily life. The cool tones and surfer-chic inspiration as well as shots around NYC always have me yearning for a vacation!
What tradition or routine is important to you?
Mornings – though it’s not easy for me to wake up – are my favorite time of day. Hasell usually nudges me awake, I make coffee while she’s outside, and we both crawl back into bed. I read through my favorite blogs, sip coffee, and enjoy a few moments in silence before starting the day. I always miss this routine when I oversleep!
What’s in your purse?
I love knowing what other people carry in their bags. Where does this fascination come from?! Right now, I have credit cards and ID, mascara, lip stick + chapstick, my cell phone, Le Pens, a notebook, my Emily Ley planner, the book I just started, several pairs of sunglasses, and my Oribe dry texturizing spray!
Where do you find your inspiration?
For me, inspiration comes when I’m walking around outside. Though I love looking to other blogs and Pinterest, my mind functions best when it is not concentrated on a screen. I recently bought a stack of magazines and had the best time looking through them – I miss that!
We know you’re a busy lady! How do you balance all of your different responsibilities? Any tips for our readers?
It’s tough! Working as a freelancer, I’m constantly balancing a million different things. I am all about writing things down. If I don’t put pen-to-paper, I have a tendency to forget (thank goodness for my Emily Ley planner!!!). Beyond that, keeping my Inbox as organized as possible is super important. As soon I respond to an email (which I attempt to do within 48 business hours), it goes into its appropriate folder (blogging, work, personal, etc.)
What’s your favorite app (or other tool) for helping you do life?
VSCOcam for editing and taking photos is probably my most useful app! I don’t know how I could ever Instagram without it :)
